Digital Democracy is an initiative of Keep a Child Alive South Africa (KCA SA). By accessing or using this portal, registering for an account, accessing learning materials, or participating in programmes offered through the Digital Democracy Academy, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

1. Use of this portal

The Digital Democracy Academy Portal provides access to information, educational resources, training opportunities, programme registrations and related services for educators, schools, partners and other members of the Digital Democracy community.

You agree to use the portal only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not interfere with its operation, security, accessibility or the experience of other users.

2. User accounts

Certain areas of the Digital Democracy Academy Portal may require you to create an account or profile.

You are responsible for ensuring that the information you provide is accurate and up to date and for keeping your login details secure.

You may not use another person’s account or allow another person to access your account without permission.

3. Course and event registration

The portal may allow users to register for training programmes, courses, workshops, webinars or other events.

Registration does not necessarily guarantee participation where places are limited or where additional eligibility requirements apply.

Digital Democracy reserves the right to change dates, venues, facilitators, programme content or availability where reasonably necessary.

Where a programme or event is changed or cancelled, reasonable efforts will be made to notify registered participants.

4. Educational resources

Materials made available through the Digital Democracy Academy Portal are intended primarily for educational and classroom use.

Unless otherwise stated, resources may be downloaded, printed and used for non-commercial educational purposes.

Resources may not be sold, republished, commercially distributed, reproduced for profit or presented as the work of another person or organisation without prior written permission.

5. Intellectual property

The content of this portal, including text, graphics, illustrations, branding, programme materials, educational resources, photographs, videos and other content, may be protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property rights.

Ownership may belong to Keep a Child Alive South Africa, Digital Democracy or relevant programme and content partners.

Nothing on this portal transfers ownership of intellectual property to the user.

6. Community participation

Where the Academy provides community, mentoring, peer-learning or other collaborative opportunities, participants are expected to engage respectfully and professionally.

Content or behaviour that is abusive, discriminatory, threatening, unlawful, deliberately misleading or otherwise inappropriate may result in removal from the portal or relevant community activities.

7. Certificates and learning records

Where applicable, the Digital Democracy Academy may record course participation, completed learning activities, training history and certificates earned through the portal.

Certificates may be subject to successful completion of specific programme or attendance requirements.

8. External platforms and services

The Digital Democracy Academy Portal may include links to external platforms, resources or services operated by third parties.

These external services are provided for convenience or as part of programme delivery. Digital Democracy and KCA South Africa are not responsible for the content, security, availability or privacy practices of third-party platforms.

Use of those services may be subject to their own terms and conditions.

9. Availability of the portal

We aim to keep the Digital Democracy Academy Portal available and functioning reliably, but uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed.

The portal or particular features may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, technical problems, upgrades or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

10. Information provided through the portal

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that information published through the Digital Democracy Academy Portal is accurate and current.

However, programme information, resources, event details and other content may change from time to time.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by South African law, Digital Democracy and Keep a Child Alive South Africa will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss resulting from the use of, or inability to use, the portal or its resources.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes any rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded under applicable South African law.

Personal information collected through the Digital Democracy Academy Portal will be handled in accordance with applicable South African privacy and data-protection requirements.
